At Southern Ginger, our dogs first and foremost are part of our family. They don't live in a building out back, nor are confined to kennels (although they are all crate trained. ) They are our lap buddies, our snugglers and (they think!) our watchdogs! We treat new pups the same way. All our puppies are born right around all the family happenings. Before their eyes open, they get all sorts of neurological stimulation and imprinting as instructed in the Puppy Culture curriculum. We expose them daily household sounds and handling early on until they go home with their new owners.
Our adult dogs are fed only the best food around, are regularly bathed and groomed, are seen by a veteranarian regularly, and are up to date on all wellness care. They spend their lives as spoiled family members. Pups are treated similarly while with us. Their tiny toe nails are trimmed every few weeks and they are introduced to the vibration of clippers and mini baths early on. They go through a careful weaning process and they too are fed a high quality food. Before they go to their new homes, they are seen by a board certified veteranarian for a wellness physical and to receive the appropriate puppy immunizations.
As a former educator, I am constantly researching to learn more about any new studies or information that can help me improve on our breeding practice. With each breeding, we keep meticulous records on the health and care of the mother dog so that when the whelping day draws near, she is the best prepared to birth and care for her new pups. Once pups are born, we continue with those precise records and then provide new owners with all the needed details when they take their pup home.
When you choose a pup from us, know that that pup has had unique attention from day one! Pups are weighed 2x a day or more for the first few weeks and monitored around the clock as they are with the mama dog. We not only use the Puppy Culture curriculum, but also make sure that each pup has extra handling and one on one time with us.
After you've chosen a pup, we will keep you informed weekly or more often of your pup's progress. We try to give you a peek into their everyday happenings and share how they are doing via FB live and other social media applications. We love to share with you what is unique about your pup and point out some cute antics or milestones as they grow up. We get pups used to many things while growing up-kitchen sounds of the microwave, timer, blender, ice maker, the doorbell, virtual rain and thunderstorms, and the barking of the adult dogs. We expose them to different textures of flooring, and play toys, and invite interaction with other people and children-being careful to practice sanitary measures so pups are not exposed to any harmful illness.
Before you take your pup home, there will be emails with intructions, Zoom calls offered for more details, as well as a Q & A time. The day you take your pup home we have set aside 30 minutes to go through everything with you and allow for anymore questions before you take your pup home. If your pup is being transported to you, we make sure all communication is clear and your pup has the best experience as it makes its way to you. After you're home with your pup I am always a text, email, or phone call away to help with any questions that come up as well.
Our puppies come to you vaccinated, wormed, seen by a board certified veteranarian and with a 2 year congenital health guarantee and 1 month of pet insurance (as well as many other things!) We believe we have done our best in breeding healthy dogs that produce healthy pups. The added health testing on all our adults help confirm that, but we still want you to be assured that we stand behind our pups in the unlikely event of a strange health occurence.
We send pups off with their new owners with some of the most important things needed right away. Along with being groomed-bathed, trimmed, brushed, and nails cut, we also send new owners home with a puppy kit of food, shampoo and creme rinse, various textures of toys and chews, a blankie, training supplies and a few other things.
